01
Restore civility and focus back to our BOE.
02
Keeping teachers’ and instructional assistants’ money in their own pockets: School employees should not be using their own money for classroom supplies. Between state budget allotments and local funds, teachers and IA’s should have a robust budget for their classrooms.
03
Our most vulnerable students should have teachers and instructional assistants in their classrooms who are properly trained and supported. Our Exceptional Childrens’ teachers should have manageable caseloads and the resources they need to support our students with different abilities.
04
Competitive pay for both certified and classified staff is crucial. While our district has made progress, our vacancies indicate that we need to do more. Introducing master’s pay for folks who have earned it since the state cut-off, continuing signing bonuses for both certified and classified staff, continuing to improve classified staff pay, and increasing the district supplement are fundamental and will require the support of our county commissioners.
05
Consistent expectations throughout our district: students thrive where there is routine and consistency. Classroom teachers should have the autonomy to create these measures in their classrooms, and administrators should support both natural and logical consequences for student behavior. And while each community our schools serve has unique needs, our philosophy of care and consequence should remain consistent for ALL students.
06
ALL students and staff should feel safe at school. This includes our protective measures currently in place. But it also includes a safe atmosphere free of bullying and judgment from both students and adults in our buildings. Student safety is our top priority in the NC Teacher Code of Ethics.
